Educational Opportunities

Quinta Mazatlán’s Center for Urban Ecology (CUE) is a transformative $76 million initiative designed to serve as a regional hub for environmental education, sustainability, and conservation in the Rio Grande Valley. Hands-On Learning, Outdoors

Opening in 2026, the Center for Urban Ecology offers hands-on learning in nature, science, and sustainability for all ages.

Outcome

When completed, the Center for Urban Ecology will serve as a lasting regional asset, advancing ecological education, conservation, and community engagement. Designed to connect people with nature, it will deliver impactful, hands-on learning experiences for generations to come.

Budget

With an overall investment of $76 million—including $54 million dedicated to construction—the project reflects a strong partnership focused on long-term community impact. Funding was strategically allocated to support sustainability, educational programming, and efficient long-term operations.

Schedule

The original 28-month schedule was ambitious for a project of this scale and complexity. With completion targeted for early 2026, the project has maintained steady progress through proactive planning and intensive stakeholder coordination, ensuring the project remains on track despite the demanding timeline.

Innovation

Innovation is woven into every aspect of the project. The iconic birdwing superstructure—custom-engineered and one of a kind—serves as both a symbolic and structural centerpiece. To address the project’s complexity and manage budget sensitivity, the Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMAR) delivery method was selected, allowing for early collaboration and greater cost control. The result is a forward-thinking facility that blends bold design with practical execution
